Once a house has been cleaned, a green garden wall, a mossy garage roof or a stained fence suddenly stands out. These structures are often in the dampest, most shaded parts of a garden, so they grow algae and mould faster than the house itself. Rendered and painted garden walls, brick piers, concrete garages and timber sheds are all common.
Soft washing treats them the same way as the house: a biocide applied at low pressure, time to work, and a gentle rinse. It is particularly useful on fences and timber sheds, where high pressure splinters the wood and raises the grain, and on rendered walls, where it can blow off weak patches. Doing outbuildings at the same visit as the house is usually the most cost-effective approach.
